Where: Hong Kong, China
When: January / February
Most of the Chinese New Year celebrations in Chinatowns around the world generally owe their being to those in Hong Kong. Due to the massive emigration from the city over the years, much of what is seen in worldwide Chinese celebrations originates from that city.
If you want to celebrate New Year in a colourful and exuberant style, then Hong Kong is the place to be, as although each Chinatown will no doubt have an excellent offering of its own, Hong Kong’s celebrations tower above all of them with the city overflowing with events for Chinese New Year.
The crowning glory of the city’s events is the International Chinese New Year parade; a must see if you’re in the city.
