The Baby Jumping Festival is a tradition that began in the Province of Burgos in 1621. The highpoint of the festival involves “devils” (men in suits – not real ones!) leaping over screaming babies in order to “bless” them. If they weren’t screaming before they were petrified by a thirteen stoine man careering over the top of them, they certainly will be afterwards. This is slightly offputting to watch, forcing the mind to wander, and reducing much of the fun to mere concern.
The baby jumping is accompanied by a procession, as is generally the case with most Spanish festivals. But what if he slips? What if he slips?!!
